Pack Courts

When you assign courts by home team and you have several divisions sharing several court assignments, courts are normally assigned as follows:

1. When the first division is scheduled the software goes to the first assignment and assigns slots from earliest to latest. If all slots are assigned then the software goes to the next court assignment.
2. When the second division is scheduled the software goes to the first unused court assignment and assigns slots from earliest to latest. If there are no unused court assignments then the software starts back to the first assignment and picks up the earliest available time slots.

Example: You have the following assignments (all on the same day):

CourtAge RangeTime Slot
V1U-12 to U-149 AM to 6 PM
V2U-12 to U-149 AM to 6 PM
V3U-12 to U-149 AM to 6 PM

You have two U-12 divisions and two U-14 divisions, each division has 6 teams, each requiring 3 slots each day, and the time between game starts is 90 minutes. The divisions are scheduled in this order: U-12 #1, U-12 #2, U-14 #1, U-14 #2.

The slots are filled as follows:

Start TimeV1V2V3
9:00 AM U-12 #1 U-12 #2 U-14 #1
10:30 AM U-12 #1 U-12 #2 U-14 #1
12:00 PM U-12 #1 U-12 #2 U-14 #1
1:30 PM U-14 #2
3:00 PM U-14 #2
4:30 PM U-14 #2

There is a Pack Courts option on the Competitions page for use by the Traveling League Scheduler. If this option is turned on, the scheduler fills all slots for the first court assignment first, then moves on to the second court assignment, etc. This allows a league to minimize the number of courts used, reducing set up and take down, and potentially reducing travel for referees, making it possible to officiate more games.

For the situation above the slots would be filled as follows:

Start TimeV1V2V3
9:00 AM U-12 #1 U-14 #1
10:30 AM U-12 #1 U-14 #1
12:00 PM U-12 #1 U-14 #1
1:30 PM U-12 #2 U-14 #4
3:00 PM U-12 #2 U-14 #4
4:30 PM U-12 #2 U-14 #4
